Question 1: Which passenger transport vehicles does ARV 1 apply to?
- Vehicles with more than sixteen seats besides the driver's seat
- Vehicles with more than eight seats besides the driver's seat
- All vehicles that carry passengers professionally
Show answer
Correct answer: Vehicles with more than eight seats besides the driver's seat
ARV 1 covers passenger transport vehicles approved for more than eight persons besides the driver's seat. The figure 16 relates to an exemption in domestic traffic (minibuses are then subject to ARV 2); lighter passenger transport falls under ARV 2.

Question 2: Which vehicles does ARV 1 not apply to, regardless of their weight?
- Vehicles with a permitted maximum speed of no more than 80 km/h
- Vehicles that are only used at weekends
- Vehicles with a permitted maximum speed of no more than 40 km/h
Show answer
Correct answer: Vehicles with a permitted maximum speed of no more than 40 km/h
Vehicles with a permitted maximum speed of no more than 40 km/h are exempt. 80 km/h is the maximum speed of heavy motor vehicles on the road, not an exemption from ARV 1.
Legal reference: ARV 1 Art. 4 para. 1
Question 3: Aylin drives a service bus on a route 35 km long. Does ARV 1 apply to her?
- No – passenger transport in scheduled services with a route length of no more than 50 km is exempt
- No – scheduled services with routes of up to 100 km are exempt
- Yes – ARV 1 applies to all buses with more than eight seats
Show answer
Correct answer: No – passenger transport in scheduled services with a route length of no more than 50 km is exempt
ARV 1 does not apply to vehicles in scheduled services, provided the route length is no more than 50 km. The 100 km relate to another exemption (breakdown assistance, craftsmen's journeys).
